Low E Window Films – Slash Energy Costs

Low E Window Film

Some of the latest innovation in window film technology can significantly help you save money on your energy costs.

There are many film solutions out on the market which can help save energy costs but Low E films have been specifically designed to push the energy saving attributes to the limits.

According to data from the Australian government’s Energy Efficiency Exchange, electricity usage related to heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) typically accounts for approximately 40 per cent of total building energy consumption and 70 per cent of base building (landlord) energy consumption.

HVAC plays a major role in peak energy usage as well and has dramatic impacts on the buildings and dwellings energy consumption during peak times, which reflects in owner/occupier billing.

On overage since the year 2000 Australian household energy prices have risen on average 9% annually based on the Australian Bureau of Statics Energy Pricing Index.

HVAC makes up such a large portion of these associated costs for Energy consumption, that low cost solutions to help reduce expenditure on HVAC are highly sought after.

Low E window films are just that, data acquired from the Australian Department of Environment and Energy shows that windows with inadequate coatings lead to on average 25 to 30% of all energy wasted from commercial buildings.

There are many options in the market for improving window energy efficiency, from Double Glazed glass to Smart-Window Technologies – however these can be very costly and particularly for Retrofitting.

Low E Films provide a cost effective Retrofit solution capable of ease of install at a marginal cost compared with Glazing and smart-window Technologies.

3M and Avery Dennison both have scientifically backed data to show that Low E Films can reduce Solar Heat Gains in Summer by up to 72% and in cooler months retain heat by up to 24%.

Low E or Low Emissivity Films have a 2-fold gain in terms of heat retention in the cooler months and blocking out heat in the warmer months.

Installation can be simple quick and seamless as the films can be fitted as a clear finish to not change the ascetics of the building.  These new types of Low E films which are clear do not impact on or cause any light lost when passing through the film.

This ensures the window retains its natural function without being negatively impacted by the Low E window film, Low E Films work exceptionally well are targeting infrared radiation and other electromagnetic energies – this is where most heat transmissions occur as opposed to visible light, Low E films are so specific in their light targeting, they o not even impede on natural plat life growth in rooms which contain Low E films.
