These films give home owners the ability to convert their normal windows into windows that can collect solar energy by adhering the film onto the inside surface of the window. These thin sheets are largely made up of organic materials: carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen.

Most people hesitate to get full-sized solar panels because of how much space it takes and how unattractive it often looks. With solar windows, your home can produce at least part of its own energy while not taking up any extra space.
Metropolitan areas in particular can take advantage of this technology due to the amount of vertical window surface area. Solar panels would not be as effective because there is often not a lot of roof space. Solar windows would greatly reduce the demand that large cities place on energy resources.
Photovoltaic films are great choices, too. Since it is easy to adhere the film to windows that you already have, there is not as much waste compared to if you purchased full solar windows.
Additionally, photovoltaic films are thin and light, meaning that it does not take much energy to produce and ship them. Experts say that these films should offer warranty that lasts a quarter of a century – pretty close to what solar panels currently offer.
